Take off without the add-ons

With air fares set to soar, there's never been a better time to buy a motorhome. According to the Motorhome Information Service (MIS), heavier taxes on flights are going to move fares skywards - and that's before the hidden extras. So the smarter traveller is keeping his feet on the ground and his eyes on a motorhome.

And Gordon Brown's first 'taxes' look like being just the beginning. Motorhomes, on the other hand, offer so much more for your money. Increasingly powerful and more comfortable than ever, the modern vehicles have been hailed as a pleasure to drive and a luxury to live in. But it's not all about the vehicle itself; it's also about the benefits of the lifestyle.

"A motorhome offers so much more," says MIS, "it's the means to a better quality of life. With airlines now charging more to help you rush from A to B, people will start to fly less frequently. But with a motorhome, you can get away as often as you like, with potentially 365 holidays a year, if you feel like it. And when you reach your destination, you don't have to pay more to go somewhere else - you just up and leave. You're totally in control."

Potential buyers see the years of instant escape a motorhome can bring for a relatively low cost. They say you can't put a price on freedom, but you can - and it's not as much as you think."
