Vehicle Excise Duty
Motorhomes are classified as follows provided that they do not have a separate CO2 emissions rating which is mandatory for cars. The only motorhome base vehicle to which this applies at present are those based on the Volkswagen Transporter and a dealer can advise on the rates accordingly.
Otherwise Motor Caravans with a Maximum Technically Permitted Laden Mass of 3500 kg are Private Light Goods Vehicles, taxed at £180 per annum from 22nd March 2007. Motorhomes with a MTPLM of over 3,500kg are Private Heavy Goods Vehicles, are £165 per annum from 22nd March 2007.
